From Railway City Brewing,

A full bodied golden Pale Ale which pours with a linen white medium density head leaving spider web lace on the glass.

On the palate the flavour is sweet fruity malts up front (apricot, mango) with a bit of candy, and slight grassy notes which fall away to reveal a hint of biscuit with rather pleasant grapefruit and perfume undertones.

This is a hop bomb, there is no doubt.  To the nose there is a mild malt aroma which accentuates the robust floral bouquet which is derived from the hops.

Medium full bodied ale with pleasant lingering hop finish.

Appearance | Amber with a white, medium-sized head.

Smell | Lemon, caramel, corn, and grains.

Taste | Subtle bitterness with notes of citrus, caramel, grainy malts.

Aftertaste | Grainy, oily, fruity with a sticky sweet feeling that lingers.

Overall | This medium-bodied brew is easy, smooth, and creamy. It is a great beer to use as an introduction to IPA as a brew type because the bitterness is masked by a caramel flavour.  There’s a ‘farm’ style to this beer with the amount of grain, malt, corn, and floral hops.  This brew would pair well with a burger, sausage on a bun, or a bowl of chili.

Don’t be thrown off by the name. It’s a tribute to Jumbo the Elephant, an elephant travelling with the Barnum & Bailey Circus circa 1881, that was tragically struck and killed by a train in St. Thomas, Ontario. Learn more about Jumbo here.
