Overall | You hate him, you love him…He’s Chris Chelios. From Lake of Bays Brewing Co., this is the Cheli’s Pale Ale.
Out of the bottle pours a clear, dark gold with a white head that quickly disappeared like Chelios’ career with Atlanta Thrashers (Yes, he briefly played with them…) but the retention is good, lively, and lacey on the glass. The aroma is of oak and vanilla. It’s a straight forward taste of an oak aged pale. The higher ABV helps the barrel taste along nicely, notes of dry white grape and an apple sweetness. The finish is a slightly sticky burnt toffee.
It’s a well done beer in this series from Lake of Bays Brewing Company. Pick a bottle today if you can find one. My collection of these bottles is growing and growing, just missing three bottles (but I’m trying to find them, especially Crazy Eyes, Jake The Snake, and one more….What is that bottle?!)
I did this review with a buddy of mine by the name of Big Kev, ala Big Hoppy Cool. (And yes, I just gave him that nickname…just now.)
