Big Rig Brewery and Exclaim! collaborate on special new beer
Ottawa’s award-winning Big Rig Brewery announces a special new beer brewed in collaboration with Exclaim!, Canada’s authority on all things music. The new Exclaim! — An Imperial Beer will make its official debut at Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival at Yonge-Dundas Square on June 13.
“Great music and beer go hand-in-hand,” says Exclaim! publisher Ian Danzig, “so it was a no-brainer when Big Rig asked us to collaborate with them.”
“Music fuels us when we’re brewing,” says Big Rig brewmaster Lon Ladell. “To team up with Exclaim!, who has a rich history of advocating for great music in Canada, is !*@# awesome.”
The result of the collaboration is a kickass Imperial Coffee IPA. It’s a big, lively beer that uses specially roasted fair trade organic beans from Engine House Coffee (cold-steeped in the beer) and is dry-hopped with nelson sauvin hops. It weighs in at 7.5% and 80 IBU, but is very approachable.
“Most coffee beers are usually porters or stouts,” Ladell says. “We wanted to make a refreshing beer using coffee that you could drink throughout the day—something that bands would want on stage and music lovers would drink at festivals.”
Exclaim! — An Imperial Beer will be pouring as part of Collaboration Nation during Session Toronto. Festivalgoers will vote on their favourite collaboration beer and the winner receives a spot in the LCBO.
Tickets for Session Toronto are on sale at sessiontoronto.com/tickets.html.

Author’s Note: I went to Session Toronto a couple years back and it was a great time. You got to sample so many one-offs and you can win prizes. I got to go to Session Toronto because I won a contest that was held by Ontario Craft Brewers. If you can, check it out on June 13th! It’s already here! I wish I was going but I will be attending a different party this time around, my Wife’s birthday.
Exclaim! – An Imperial Beer sounds pretty delicious if you ask me. Imperial Coffee IPA? Now that’s a beer that I would love to try.
