REVIEW: Elora Borealis by Elora Brewing Co.

From The Brew Box Co.,  Elora Brewing Co. made its way to customers all over Ontario in the month of April.   This comes as the first written review for the year 2016, yes, written of 2016.  If you haven’t noticed, I started a new YouTube series called The Beer Program and you can check it out here.   Back to the beer,  Elora Brewing Co. is from Elora, Ontario which it’s 20 minutes north of Guelph.   It is nestled right downtown in the heart of Elora, ON.

According to Elora Brewing Co.,

Part of our new Small Batch Series AND our Single Hop Series. Elora Borealis is a lightly malted pale ale that is bittered, flavoured, and dry-hopped exclusively with Citra Hops. A bright, floral nose gives way to crisp, light malt flavours and finishes with several citrus notes. A taste of warmer weather and clear skies dancing with Northern Lights!

Elora Borealis is a great way to enjoy the current sunny yet “where the hell is the Spring weather” spring days.  In fact, the day after I took this picture, we got hit with a nice little snowstorm (and the last one of the season, hopefully!)   That being said, Elora Brewing Co. started up last year and I’ve only tried three different beer from them so far. Let’s put it this way, I wasn’t all that impressed with the beer that they were cranking out when they first got up and running. But this beer hits the spot just right!

Here’s the good news, Elora Borealis is a surprisingly delicious hit!  Out of the bottle pours a hazy yellow colour with a white head that laces the glassware with each sip.   The aroma is tropical with notes of citrusy zest, floral, subtle notes of tangerine, peaches, and faint pineapples.  The taste is similar to the aroma yet with a light bitterness that shouldn’t scare any new drinkers away.   It has a nice medium note of grapefruit along with the tropical fruits and zest.

For Elora Borealis, this deserves a 3.5 out of 5 pints and it’s worth picking up a bottle or a growler of this.  I can’t wait to have this again on a sunny Spring day!
