From Cameron’s Brewing Co.,
The New Wood Brett Saison was crafted adventurously with fruity Saison yeast, new world tropical hops and multiple strains of wild Brettanomyces yeast (colloquially referred to as “Brett,” hence its name). The fresh infusion of wild yeasts, long aged in a large, untamed oak barrel results in a mingling of flavours that are unique and pleasurable.
With the new series of “Oak Foeder” from Cameron’s Brewing Co., the labels are pretty eye-catching and quite beautiful. Yes, you may be like “What the hell are you talking about, Adam?” – well, the fact is that I was a Graphic Designer (and still am!) I have to give major props to whoever designed these labels for this series. I love the “Less is More” approach for the label and the kicker? The label itself is a sticker on the tallboy, but yeah, what’s the difference? Well, there’s a paper-texture feel which adds to the whole “Oak Foeder” series!
Out of the tallboy pours a light, hazy orange-copper colour with a light white head. With every sip, it laced the beer lingerie (glassware).
With a whim of the beer, you could smell the Brettanomyces yeast (similar to lemon, tart, funky) along with citrus notes.
As I began to savor New Wood, there was a sharp note of citrus acid, yeast, subtle notes of Brett, malts, and oak. At 6.2%, it doesn’t seem that big of a beer but it was warming you up inside, which it’s (at least, to me!) unusually weird in a Saison. The Brettanomyces yeast is quite noticeable in this beer and it’s a good thing too!
This is the first time that I’m trying from this series out of Oakville’s Cameron Brewing Co. Let me tell you something, this beer is a “Ready for Spring yet still dealing with Winter” beer. It’s refreshing yet a warmer, unusually weird however It’s a helluva beer and I can’t really wait to try the other beer in the series. Oh yes, Barley Wines! If you happen to be in the Oakville area, stop by the brewery and pick up any of these Oak Foeder series beer, you will not regret it!
I would like to give a shout-out to my co-worker for picking up the whole series for me, Thanks Will!
